Treatment of ties
For data containing ties (multiple occurrences of a data value) tick marks will be superimposed, which may produce a misleading impression of the distribution. If the Jitter Data Values option is checked, small random amounts are added to tied data values so that more ticks are produced, indicating a greater density of data around a particular point.
Jitter ratio | The maximum permitted adjustment expressed as a proportion of the overall range of the data. The recommended value for this is 0.01, i.e. points are moved by up to 1% of the range. It should not be set much larger than this or tied values may be moved beyond adjacent observed data points, resulting in a meaningless display. |
Jitter seed | Can be used to specify a seed for the random number generator so that a particular plot can be reproduced exactly. A value of 0 continues from previous random number sequences or initializes the random number generator from the system clock if this is the first use. |
